William R. Mackay

William R. MacKay, 75, resident of Bedford, NH died on March 30, 2014 at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH. He was born in Malden, MA on September 7, 1938, a son of Ernest C. and Charlotte (Forsey) MacKay. Bill spent most of his school years in Massachusetts, then moved to New Durham, NH in his Junior year and graduated from Alton High School, Alton, NH. He made his home in Bedford for the past 30 years and formerly lived in Merrimack, NH for 10 years. He had been employed at Tridyne Corp in Merrimack for 15 years and later worked as an Engineering Technician for 25 years at Norton Company, Worcester, MA. Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife having gone on several cruises, visiting Hawaii twice and going through the Panama Canal. He was very handy and liked all types of carpentry work, gardening and was an avid Boston sports fan. Bill always had a keen interest in clocks and over the years he had built his own grandfather clock. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served two years in Okinawa. He was an airplane mechanic and worked on F-86s as Crew Chief. Family members include his wife of 51 years, Florence L. (Philbrick) MacKay of Bedford; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Maryann MacKay of Milford, John and Nancy MacKay of Nashua; a brother-in-law, Gene Philbrick of Florida; and several nieces and nephews, who all thought the world of him. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 4th at 11:00 am in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
