Ulysses L. Alix

Ulysses L. Alix, 83, resident of Manchester, NH, died on March 3, 2008 at the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH.�He was born in Greenville, NH on August 11, 1924, the third of six children of Adrien Alix and Angelina (Thibault) Alix.� He was preceded in death by his sister, Adrienne Alix and brothers, Roland and Leo, as well as his parents.�He graduated from Appleton Academy and entered into the service of his country in 1943.� A member of the 336th Field Artillery Battalion of the 87th Acorn Division of General Pattons 3rd army, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and in the Battle of Remagen.� He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Leclair-Caron Post #13 in Greenville, NH and was also a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.�After leaving the service, Mr. Alix studied electronics with ITS and RCA.� He worked as an electronic technician, and had retired from Kollsman, Inc. in 1989, where he worked in the quality assurance department of the M60 fire control system and Nightsight programs.�Throughout his life he was an avid sports enthusiast; as a young man, he played baseball and basketball in several local leagues, and remained a devoted fan.� He enjoyed the big band music of his youth, and especially liked big gatherings of family and friends.�Mr. Alix was a communicant of St. Patricks Church, Milford.�Family members include his wife of 56 years, Isabelle (Emond) Alix of Manchester, NH; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary-Ellen Alix of Quincy, MA, Martha & Paul Carignan of Weare, NH; four grandchildren, Michael Alix-Garth of Jamaica Plain, MA, Louis Alix-Garth of Quincy, MA, Benjamin Carignan and Julianne Carignan, both of Weare, NH; a great granddaughter, Destinee Alix-Garth; a brother, Philip Alix of Greenville, NH; a sister, Gabrielle Chabot of Richmond, CA; as well as several nieces and nephews.����Calling hours are on Friday, March 7th from 11:00 am-12:30 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH.� A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm in St. Patricks Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, followed by military honors.� Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Ipswich, NH, in the spring.� In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY� 10087-7106 or to the Alzheimers Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th floor, New York, NY� 10001.� Smith & Heald Funeral Home, Milford, is handling arrangements
