Thomas G. Callahan, 86, resident of Amherst, NH, died June 21, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 12, 1925, a son of Michael T. and Mary C. (Keegan) Callahan. He was raised in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Brooklyn Preparatory and received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Syracuse University. Mr. Callahan made his home in Amherst for the past 37 years and formerly lived in Winchester, MA for 16 years and previously Garden City, NY. He was the owner of Tom Callahan and Associates of Milford, NH, a wholesale pearl and jewelry company. Mr. Callahan was an avid sailor. He enjoyed many happy days at his summer home on Long Island and winters in Abaco, Bahamas. He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church, Milford. Mr. Callahan was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II as a Bow Gunner on a B-24 Navy Privateer in squadron #104 and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Aviation Radioman Third Class after receiving numerous medals and citations. Family members include his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Fussell) Callahan of Amherst; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Colin Buffin of Hopetown, Bahamas; five sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Vicki Callahan of Oyster Bay, NY, Stephen and Lorraine Callahan, David Callahan, all of Amherst, Jamie and Patti Callahan of Frisco, CO and Brian Callahan and fiance Kerry Tracey of Alexandria, VA; nine grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Shae and Sarah Callahan, Jack and Elizabeth Callahan, Evan and Brendan Callahan, Nicholas and Charles Buffin. Calling hours are Monday, June 25th from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 am in St. Patrick Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Share Outreach, Inc. 1 Columbus Avenue, Milfor, NH 03055, a charity which provides support for those in need in the local area (www.sharenh.org).
