Steven Francis Laychak, 82, of Jaffrey, NH passed away on May 5, 2017 at his home. Steve was born at his family home in Norwalk, CT on November 6, 1934 to Estovan and Ethel (Erdige) Laychak. He was raised in Norwalk and entered the US Army after graduating from Norwalk High School. Once discharged, he attended DeVry Institute in Chicago, IL where he earned an Electrical Engineering degree. Work led him to Manhattan Beach, CA and later Laguna Beach. In 1972, he and his family moved to Amherst, NH. He worked at Teradyne until his retirement. He stayed in Amherst for close to 3 decades before moving to Wolfeboro and finally Jaffrey. He had a knack for woodworking and made each of his homes his own. He is survived by his son and daughter in-law, Bryan and Krys Laychak of Milton, Vermont and his daughter and son-in-law, Lesli and Rob Rendall of Mont Vernon, NH. He was a proud grandfather to Cameron and Zachary Laychak and McKenzie, Taylor and Liam Rendall. He is also survived by a sister, Irene Reda and nephew and his wife, Mark and Louise Reda, all of Tampa, FL. He remained close to his ex-wife, Joanne Laychak of Milford, NH. Steve drew great pleasure watching his children grow into successful adults. ‘Poppy John Deere”, as he was known to his grandchildren, earned his nickname over the years, driving them around the yard on his tractor. While his health still allowed, he loved nothing better than driving to Vermont to celebrate a birthday and hang out down at the river with his grandchildren or watching soccer games, swim meets, or bowling matches. Steve loved to garden, cook, build intricate model ships and was in the process of teaching himself CAD programming. In his younger days, he rode his motorcycle all over the US, parts of Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. He was an avid reader, especially books about espionage and World War 2. His greatest professional accomplishment was in his work with Backplane Connectors for which he held a US Patent. There are no calling hours but a celebration of life will be held on June 17th from 12 to 4 PM at 9 Mason Road in Mont Vernon, NH. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH
