Sean A. Duffy, 74, resident of Mont Vernon, NH, died March 5, 2009 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, NH, surrounded by his family. He was born in Knocknacarra, Salthill, Co. Galway, Ireland on January 21, 1935, a son of the late Michael & Mary (Flaherty) Duffy and was raised and educated in Ireland by the Christian Brothers. He immigrated to Carnegie Hill, Upper East Side of New York City in 1954. From there, he moved to Fairfield County, CT where he resided for 20 years, then to Amherst, NH and finally moving to Mont Vernon, NH several years ago. Mr. Duffy worked in the construction industry all of his life. He joined the Carpenters Union Local #608 and worked as a carpenter at a number of sites throughout New York. For several years, he was the Curator of Fine Woods at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Later in his career, he became a Senior Vice President for Gazetten Construction, a Senior Vice President for Olympia & York, and Vice President of Construction for Nico. He worked on numerous construction projects including the World Trade Center in New York and the Financial Center in Boston, the Hummel Club in Tarrytown, NY, and many hospitals in New York City. He was much in demand for his beautiful renovations of Manhattan brownstones. Mr. Duffy was an active communicant of St. Patrick�s Church, Milford, NH, where he enjoyed singing in the choir for several years. He was a member of the fourth degree of the Milford Council Knights of Columbus #3035 and had served as the financial secretary. In addition, he was a member of the Knights of Malta and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was an avid golfer, and played in the senior�s league for a number of years. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary T. (Ward) Duffy, who died in 2001 and a brother, Frank Duffy. Family members include his daughter and son-in-law, Megan D. Griffith and John G. Griffith III of Mont Vernon, NH, with whom he made his home; four sisters and their spouses, Philomena & Ken Faraway of England, Joan & Enda Colleran, Sheila & Brian Ramaker, Drs. Martina & Thomas Rea; three brothers and their spouses, Paul & Bridge Duffy, Gabriel & Bairbre Duffy, Kevin & Lorna Duffy, all of Galway, Ireland; his great aunt, Bridget (Flaherty) Boland of England; two sisters-in-law, Helena Duffy and Peggy Shaff-McKenna; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Calling hours are Sunday, March 8th from 1:00-4:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 1:00 pm in St. Patrick�s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst, in the spring.
