Samuel “Sam” Mayerle, Jr., 87, resident of Milford, NH died on October 29, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cortland, NY on April 17, 1928, a son of Samuel S. Mayerle, Sr. and Ethel (Scott) Mayerle. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from Hofstra University. He made his home in Wantagh, NY for many years prior to moving to Milford in 1976 and continued his education at Hesser College in Nashua, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. Mr. Mayerle had been employed as a manufacturing engineer for Kollsman Instruments, Merrimack, NH for 38 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a member of the Milford Candlepin Thursday Night Mixed Bowling League. He stayed very active and could fix anything. Following his retirement in 1991, he volunteered much of his time to Friends in Service Helping (FISH). Mr. Mayerle attended the Church of Our Saviour, Milford and sang in the choir. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp having served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1951 with the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Mayerle was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Robinson. Family members include his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Strohmayer) Mayerle of Milford; three daughters, Debra A. Mayerle Burgman of Las Vegas, NV, Darlene C. Mayerle Catharine of Milford and Dawn M. Fountain of Lancaster, NH; 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Memorial visiting hours are on Monday, November 2nd from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Manchester VNA, 1070 Holt Avenue, Suite 1400, Manchester, NH 03109.
