Ruth D. Young

Ruth D. Young, 94, longtime resident of Amherst, NH died on October 20, 2015 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Queens, NY a daughter of Robert E. and Mary L. (Burns) Dwyer. She was raised and educated in Montclair, NJ, and graduated from Rosemont College near Philadelphia, PA in 1943 with a degree in Mathematics. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and great grandmother. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She was beloved for her sharp yet practical mind, her generosity, and her many acts of thoughtfulness. Mrs. Young enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several clubs. In her earlier years she belonged to Hampshire Hills and Jasper Valley where she played tennis. She remained an avid tennis fan all her life watching matches. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford. Mrs. Young was predeceased by her husband, John P. Young, who died in 1979. Family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine Young and Joseph Benoit of VA, Mollie and Michael Kennedy of Peterborough, NH; four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Mim Young of VA, Michael Young of Amherst, NH, Bob and Jennifer Young of Amherst, NH, Jim and Ghada Young of MD; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held on October 24 at 11:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Private burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), Share Outreach, Inc., 1 Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055 or to the charity of one’s choice.
