Russell W. Leishman, 93, longtime resident of Milford, died on June 8, 2013 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, NH. He was born in Waltham, MA on December 8, 1919, a son of William and Edna (Buckle) Leishman. Mr. Leishman had been employed by Sanders Associates as the Director of Facilities Planning for many years. He was active in scouting and in 1985, was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award from the Daniel Webster Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which is the highest award that can be given by a local council in recognition of exceptional volunteers. Mr. Leishman was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served aboard the USS Wichita and USS Boston. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer and had received numerous medals. In addition, he was a charter member of the National World War II Museum, a member of the American Legion and Benevolent Lodge #7, F & AM, Milford. Mr. Leishman was an active member of the Church of Our Saviour where he served on the vestry and as a lay reader. He was a loving father; devoted grandfather and most especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Hope Nightingale (Goodell) Leishman, who died in 2012 and a daughter, Elizabeth H. Leishman, who died in 1971. Family members include a son, Peter Leishman and his fiancé, Cheryl Seifert of Peterborough, NH; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Paul Courtemanche of Nashua, NH; four grandchildren, Alex and Zachary Courtemanche, Jordan and Abby Leishman; three sisters, Jean Lyon of Nashua, NH, Ruth O’Brien of Massachusetts, Barbara Damoiseau of Florida; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are on Thursday, June 13th from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 am in the Church of Our Saviour, 10 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial with military honors will follow in Mt. Feake Cemetery, Waltham, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Share Outreach, Inc., 1 Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055.
