Roy F. Stone, 88, resident of Milford, NH, formerly of Wilton, NH and Sarasota, FL, died on October 26, 2022 at his home. He was the son of the late Clifton C. and Mary (Freeland) Stone.
Mr. Stone graduated from the Auburn, Massachusetts High School and with Distinction from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was involved with digital computers from as early as 1956 and has made a career of computer systems analysis, programming and consulting for over fifty years. He served for two years in the Army Signal Corps in Germany. Mr. Stone worked for the Norton Company in Worcester, MA and did consulting for several of their subsidiary facilities in this country, Europe, and South America. At one time he was a partner in the firm of Colonial Data Systems and provided programming design and installation service for many small businesses in eastern Massachusetts. He later worked for Digital Equipment Corporation in Merrimack, NH and also consulted with subsidiaries in this country, Hawaii, Europe, and South America. He retired in 1992, but continued to consult for small firms in Southern New Hampshire.
During his retirement years he published two books on the genealogy of both his mother’s and his father’s family. While living in Sarasota he produced six annual comedy shows for the benefit of his retirement community.
Mr. Stone was a 60-year member of the Auburn Grange. He was a member of the Joel H. Prouty Lodge of Masons in Auburn. He was a past president of the Worcester Chapter of the Data Processing Management Association and a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Auburn.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Chester C. Stone and Howard C. Stone; and his sisters, Margery A. Tucker and Phyllis M. Hardy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Elizabeth M. (Cotton) Stone of Milford; his first wife, Barbara (Royston) Stone and their three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Stone of Haverhill, MA, Mark and Deborah Stone of Auburn, MA, and Peter Stone of Newburyport, MA; two stepchildren, Julie Schaefer of Milford, NH and Patrick Clarke; three grandchildren; a step granddaughter; and four great grandchildren.
Visiting hours are on Thursday, November 3rd from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Wilton, at a later date.
