Ronald D. Hug

Ronald D. Hug, 93, resident of Milford, NH died on October 15 2019 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 15, 1926, a son of the late Henry and Alice (Roeber) Hug. Ron made his home in Milford, NH for 40 years and formerly lived in Farmingdale, NY. He had been employed for New York Telephone and New England Telephone Company for 40 years. In his earlier years, he was a Boy Scout Leader and Little League coach. He was instrumental in the Share Program and was an active communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, where he served on numerous committees and was a Eucharistic Minister .In addition he was a member of the Milford Council #3035 Knights of Columbus. He was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged in November 1945. Ron was predeceased by the love of his life and his wife of 69 years, Edna M. (Dillon) Hug, who died in 2018. Family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Jim Schlegel of Hooksett, NH; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Patty Hug, and Ronald R. Hug, all of Milford; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hug of NY; many nieces and nephews. Ron was an avid baseball follower of the old Brookyn Dodgers and, later, the NY Mets. He also loved to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events, of which there were many. Ronald was a loving husband and father, always putting his family first. He adored Edna, his high school sweetheart- they were a match ‘made in heaven’ where they both now reside forever, hand-in-hand. Calling hours are on Friday, October 18th from 4:00-7:00pm with a time of sharing from 6:30-7:00pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford. Burial with military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Home Health and Hospice, Executive Drive, Merrimack, NH. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Heald Funeral Home, Milford.
