Roberta R. (Howe) Douglas, 89, resident of Milford, NH, died on August 2, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Nashua, NH. She was born in Nashua, NH on May 13, 1933, a daughter of the late Robert H. Howe, Sr. and Rosie (Curtis) Howe. She was raised in Lyndeborough, NH and graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1951. She married her husband, Chester E. Douglas in 1952, and together they owned and operated Douglas Texaco and Service Station and U-Haul from 1964-1996. She had also worked at Hampshire Designer, Manchester, NH and Hitchiner Manufacturing Company, Milford until her retirement. She later went to work at Haywards Trading Post in Milford, where she currently worked alongside with three of her sisters for many years. Roberta was a member of the Anna Lee Doll Society, member and secretary of the Milford Historical Society, and member of the Genealogy Society. A member of the NH Society of Mayflower Descendants, she published a book on both sides of The Howe and Curtis Families, tracing family heritage back to descendants of the Mayflower. Roberta loved to follow local pro sports teams, history of all kinds, and travelling with family and friends. She most especially loved spending time with her family, which included 48 years of Wednesday night dinners. She will always be remembered for her smile and someone who loved everyone. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Harwood. Family members include three children, Michael A. Douglas of Milford, Steven C. Douglas and his wife, Gail of Lyndeborough, NH, Lynn Douglas Andrews and her husband, Gene of St. Petersburg, FL; three grandchildren whom she adored, Jeffrey S. Douglas of Henderson, NV, Jonathan R. Douglas of Lyndeborough, NH, and Stefan D. Chlypawka of Pinellas Park, FL; two great grandchildren, Owen and Sierra Douglas of Webster, NH; five sisters, Kathryn Heald, Elizabeth Drolet, Frances Houston, Janet O’Neil and her husband, Allen, and Gretchen Hutchinson; and a brother, Robert Howe and his wife, Jennifer; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are on Monday, August 8th from 4:00-7:00pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00am in the First Congregational Church of Milford, 10 Union Street, Milford. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Milford Historical Society, P.O. Box 609, 6 Union Street, Milford, NH 03055.
