Robert L Tinklepaugh passed away March 17, 2024, at his home in Hollis New Hampshire. He was the son of Otto L. and Dorothy Morgenthau Tinklepaugh born in Chicago Illinois on September 28, 1937. His childhood years were spent in westchester county New York where he attended Purchase elementary school and graduated from Rye High school in 1955. Bob went to Bates College in Lewiston Maine where He majored in Chemistry and met Joan his wife of 65 years. They married when they both graduated in 1959 and started their journey through life together. First stop Was Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where Bob received his PHD in 1964. After graduation he accepted a position with the gulf Oil Harmarville Laboratory where he worked on air pollution designing tests to detect gasoline fumes in the atmosphere. As Pittsburgh was a long distance from family, The Tinklepaugh's moved to the other end of Pennsylvania where Bob was employed by Sun Oil Company at their Newtown Square Laboratory designing instruments for Sun’s refineries. The fifteen years at Sun included a four-year stint in Puerto Rico as Chief Chemist at the refinery in Yabucoa. Bob’s life was not only defined by his work. He loved his family and enjoyed many other lifelong interests. They included swimming, especially in the ocean. The four years in Puerto Rico gave him the chance to swim at every beach on the island, snorkeling and collecting shells. There were many more opportunities to enjoy this sport in the Caribbean, Hawaii, the South Pacific and Australia during family travels. his interest in the financial market eventually allowed him to retire at an early age, return to the New England area and live in Hollis, new hampshire where He settled down for good. Family, Home, Garden, birds’ history and the “market” filled his very happy retirement. Bob is survived by his wife Joan, Daughter Ellen MacHenry and her husband Paul of Cape Elizabeth Maine; Son Andrew of Hollis,New Hampshire; His granddaughter Michelle Scudder, her husband Jeremy of Hollis and Great Granddaughter Annabelle Watters of South Burlington Vermont. There will be private services at East cemetery in Hollis in the spring when the dogwoods are out. Remembrances of Bob may be sent to the Home health and Hospice Care of Merrimack New Hampshire, the Hollis Historical Society or Boys Town of America.
