Robert L. Bacon, 78, resident of Amherst, NH, died September 22, 2011 at his home. He was born in New Britain, CT on December 31, 1932, the son of Frederick L. and Mary Margaret (Carson) Bacon. Bob was raised and educated in Connecticut and was a graduate of Quinnipiac College. His career took him throughout the country, spending time in Birmingham, Michigan and Dallas, Texas prior to settling in Amherst in 1966. In his professional life, he was a principal in the architectural hardware firm of Chandler & Barber in Boston, MA, before acquiring Craftsman, Inc. in Merrimack, NH, where he served as President and CEO. In his later years, upon the sale of Craftsman and until his retirement, he returned to his first love, real estate development, in partnership with Desmarais Construction. During this time he also became a principal and developer of Ponemah Green Family Golf Center in Amherst. In addition, Bob was a member of the Optimist Club, Dallas, TX, Milford Rotary Club, the “Weary Club” of Amherst, and was a member of the Doors and Hardware Institute as an American Hardware Consultant. Over the years, Bob enjoyed skiing, golfing, hunting and boating. His love of the ocean drew him to spend time between his homes on Martha’s Vineyard and Bonita Springs, Florida. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War. Family members include his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy (Dyer) Bacon of Amherst, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, R. Scott and Jeryl Bacon of Stratham, NH; two daughters and a son-in-law, Heidi and Michael Violette of Amherst, NH and Holly Bacon of Bonita Springs, FL; four grandchildren, Matthew Bacon of Washington, DC, Erin Bacon of Boston, MA, Micaela Violette of Boston, MA and Tyler Violette of Amherst, NH; a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Clayton Wheeler of Bristol, CT; several nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours are Tuesday, September 27th from 3:00-6:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, followed by a Celebration of Bob’s Life at 6:30 pm at the Milford Community House, 5 Union Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Milford Rotary Scholarship Fund, P.O.
