Robert C. Donaghy, Sr.

Robert C. Donaghy, Sr., 84, resident of Derry, NH, died July 22, 2011 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry, NH. He was born in Chelsea, MA on October 15, 1926, a son of the late Norman K. and Bernice M. (Lovejoy) Donaghy. Mr. Donaghy graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1945 and Wentworth Institute of Technology, Class of 1950. He resided in Derry for the past two years and formerly lived in Greenville, NH for several years and Brookline, NH for many years. Mr. Donaghy had been employed as a mechanical engineer for Sprague Electric for 25 years, General Electric Corporation for several years and retired for Vitronics Corporation in 1994. He had also worked as a police officer for the Town of Brookline for several years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, fishing and boating, especially on Lake Winnipesaukee. He also cherished his two black cocker spaniels, Mitzie and Teddy Bear. Mr. Donaghy was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946, with the rank of Corporal. He served as a commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Newburyport, MA. In addition, he was a member of Ricciardi Hartshorn Post #23 American Legion, Milford. He was predeceased by his wife, Louella H. (Farin) Donaghy, who died June 7, 2011; his first wife, Jean C. (Monroe) Donaghy; a son, Richard “Butch” Montgomery and a brother, Richard N. Donaghy. Family members include five daughters, Linda Sorge of Bedford, NH, Kathryn Hale of Norwich, CT, Liz Montgomery of Arlington, MA, Cynthia St. John of New Boston, NH and Patricia Piper of Greenville, NH; two sons, Robert Donaghy, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and Kenneth Donaghy of Clearfield, UT; 18 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Abriel of Lynn, MA. There are no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 28th at 10:00 am in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. Burial for Bob and Lou will be on Saturday, July 30th at 9:00 am in Pine Grove Cemetery, Pepperell Road, Brookline, NH, with military honors. Donations in his memory may be made to Greenville Community Christian Church, P.O. Box 304, Greenville, NH 03048.
