Richard T. Griffith, Sr.

Richard T. Griffith, Sr., 86, longtime resident of Amherst, NH died September 13, 2010 at Greenbriar Healthcare Terrace, Nashua, NH. He was born in Russellton, PA on July 4, 1924, a son of the late Shealds H. and Myrtle B. (Myers) Griffith. Raised and educated in Russellton, he was a graduate of Russellton High School and Pittsburg Institute of Aeronautics, Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Griffith owned and operated Nu-Holland Restaurant, Binghamton, NY for five years. He later joined Nationwide Insurance Company where he was employed for 30 years and became the Regional Sales Manager for New England. Following his retirement from the insurance industry, he worked as a realtor for several local real estate agencies. He was an avid sports fan, loved the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed boating on Cayuga Lake in New York and Lake Winnipesaukee. Mr. Griffith served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1946 having received several commendations and service awards. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was an elder at the First Baptist Church in Milford for many years. Family members include his wife of 64 years, Jean (Broun) Griffith of Amherst, NH; a daughter, Kathryn J. Goddard of Deerfield, NH; two sons, Richard T. Griffith, Jr. of Mont Vernon, NH and David S. Griffith of Stockton, NJ; 12 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 18th at 2:00 pm in the Household of Faith Church, 30 Merrimack Road, Amherst, NH. Burial with military honors will follow in Meadowview Cemetery, Foundry Street, Amherst. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Share Outreach, Inc., 1 Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055.
