Richard “Dick” R. Ray, 76, longtime resident of Amherst, NH, died suddenly on Monday, November 25, 2013 at his home. Dick was born in Tampa, Florida on November 27, 1936, son of Roy M. and Judy (Boydston) Ray. He graduated from Plant High School and The University of Florida. Mr. Ray was employed by Lockheed Sanders for 35 years as an electrical engineer, before retiring in 1998. Dick was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed skiing, canoeing, hiking and automobiles. He also loved traveling especially to Alaska, China and Italy as well as going on cruises. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, grandfather and loved spending time with his family. Mr. Ray was predeceased by his sister, Dale (Ray) Williams and grandson, Ross Alter. Family members include his wife, Charlotte (Woods) Ray of Amherst; daughters, Kristin (Stephen) Crotty of Arlington, MA, Amy (Kevin) Haskins of Portland, ME, Janet Alter, of Atlanta, GA, Susan (Jim) Cole of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Richard Ray of Boston, MA; nine grandchildren: Clayton Savage, Hunter Savage, Katie Savage, Wood Alter, Addie Alter, Carson Savage, William Crotty, Neil Haskins and Maeve Haskins; brother­in­law Bill (Sharon) Woods of Jacksonville, FL, sister­in­law Wanda W. Schulz of Auburndale, FL; and niece, Stacy Woods. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30th at 11:00 am in the First Baptist Church of Amherst, 25 ½ Middle Street, Amherst, NH.
