Rev. Charles O. Peters Jr.

Rev. Charles “Sonny” O. Peters Jr, 86, of Wilton, New Hampshire, died peacefully in his home on October 14, 2021 surrounded by his family. Charles was born on January 7, 1935 in Newburyport, Massachusetts to Charles Peters and Grace Maccarone. He joined the U.S. Navy on March 12, 1952 and served as a Damage Controlman 3rd Class on the USS Tanner (AGS-15) and the USS Briareus until being honorably discharged on December 15, 1955. After separating from the Navy, Charles met the love of his life Fern L. Corson and they were married on April 22, 1966. In 1971, he went to work for Anheuser Busch in Merrimack, NH where he worked as a mechanic/welder for 26 years until he retired in February 1997. During that time, he pursued his desire to serve the Lord through serving people by volunteering in the New Hampshire State Prison Fellowship and Kairos Prison Ministry programs with his wife Fern. Charles was licensed and ordained at First Baptist Church of Milford, NH on June 4, 1989 and earned his Doctorate of Ministry through Newburgh Theological Seminary on June 13, 2015. Charles and Fern’s dedication to the prison ministry programs culminated more than 30 years of selfless service with their “soft” retirement in 2016. Charles loved Jesus and dedicated his life to serving Him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and all-around family man. He was a man of many talents and shared his love for Christ and his family until his last moments. Charles is survived by his wife Fern; sister Sally Walker and her husband Charles; daughters Teresa Peters Gago, Lisa Peters Ikerd and her husband Greg, Gina Peters Whipple and her husband Scott, and son, Mark Peters and his wife Claire; grandchildren, Sophia Buonodono and her husband Nate, Sabrina Gonzalez and her husband Nicco, Camden Peters, and Rilyn Peters; and great grandchildren, Victoria Buonodono and Nathaniel Buonodono.
