Raymond P. Thomas, Sr.

Raymond P. Thomas, Sr., 82, resident of Amherst, NH, died August 11, 2010 at The Elms Care & Rehabilitation Center, Milford. He was born in Brockton, MA on February 26, 1928, a son of the late Charles and Jean (Miles) Thomas. Mr. Thomas was raised and educated in Brockton, MA. He graduated from Brockton High School and Bentley School of Accounting. He and his wife made their home in Amherst, NH for the past 41 years and formerly resided in New Jersey for several years. Mr. Thomas began his career as a traveling auditor for New England Telephone, and was later promoted to Regional Manager of the Salem, MA office and then promoted to the Boston Office. In 1964, he was transferred to AT &T in New York City, and in 1969, returned to New Hampshire to New England Telephone as the General Accounting Manager of New Hampshire and Vermont. His last years were spent in Boston as the General Accounting Manager for the New England states. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed deep sea fishing, downhill and cross country skiing. Mr. Thomas was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford and a member of Milford Council #3035 Knights of Columbus. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War. Mr. Thomas was predeceased by a grandson, Joshua P. Thomas; a brother, Edward Thomas and two sisters, Lorraine Erickson and Patricia McKeen. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Family members include his wife with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 21st, Catherine A. (Hurley) Thomas of Amherst, NH; a daughter, Joanne L. Hatch and her husband, Stephen of North Haverhill, NH; three sons, Raymond P. Thomas, Jr. of Concord, NH, Peter M. Thomas and his wife, Kimberly of Milford, NH, Steven M. Thomas and his wife, JeriLyn of Manassas, VA; 6 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Thomas and his wife, Judy of North Easton, MA; a sister-in-law, Lillian Thomas of West Bridgewater, MA; many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Sunday, August 15th from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, followed by cremation. Burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 2 Wall Street, Manchester, NH 03101.
