Raymond L. Desmarais, 82, resident of Amherst, NH, died December 19, 2010 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, NH. He was born in Nashua, NH on October 13, 1928 to Edward L. and Grace (Dalton) Desmarais. Mr. Desmarais and his wife made their home in Amherst for more than 50 years. He was the General Manager of P.J. Currier Lumber Company in Amherst from 1952 until his retirement in 1989. He served on the Amherst Recreation Committee, Boy Scouts of America and was a life member of Hoo Hoo, a fraternal order of the forest products industry. In addition, he was part of the “six-in-the- morning coffee friends” which met faithfully for over 20 years. Mr. Desmarais enjoyed golfing, skiing and especially loved vacationing with his family at the beach. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Desmarais. Family members include his wife with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 9th, Leora (Haight) Desmarais, of Amherst, NH; four sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Ann Desmarais, Tom and Colleen Desmarais, Steven and Sarah Desmarais, all of Amherst, Gerald Desmarais of Montpelier, VT; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Peter Warren of Amherst, NH; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Warren and his wife, Rheanna Cote, Alena Warren, Kate Desmarais, Ryan and Caleb Desmarais, Sophia and Grace Desmarais; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Henry Castonguay of Nashua, NH; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Desmarais of Jupiter, FL, Robert and Ellen Desmarais of Green Bay, WI, Ralph and Nancy Desmarais of Little Rock, AR; many nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours are Wednesday, December 22nd, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am in the Souhegan Valley Boys & Girls Club, 56 Mont Vernon Street, Milford, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Souhegan Valley Boys & Girls Club, 56 Mont Vernon Street, Milford, NH 03055 or Opportunity Networks, 11 Caldwell Drive #7, Amherst, NH 03031.
