Ralph E. Paul Jr., 91, resident of Milford, NH, died on March 8, 2025, at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 10, 1934, in Oakland, CA, the only child of the late Ralph E. and Ethel (Adamson) Paul Sr.
Ralph grew up in Oakland, CA and loved the Bay Area. While growing up, he developed a love of gardening and working with his hands. After High School, Ralph enlisted in the Army and served in Europe during the time of the Korean War.
After his service, Ralph resumed engineering studies at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. While Ralph always downplayed his work at Dalmo-Victor in the early sixties, his sons are always proud to mention that “Dad participated in designing hardware that is still sitting on the moon” (he worked on a team that designed one of the antennas on the lunar landers).
During this time, Ralph met the love of his life, Cynthia. They were married in 1961 and started their family with Penny (a beagle-fox terrier mix – Ralph was a life-long dog lover). Their sons Tim and Mike joined the family a little later.
In the 70’s Ralph worked for Mobility Systems, a subsidiary of Raymond Corporation. In 1975 Ralph accepted a job transfer with Raymond, to Greene, New York. Ralph, Cynthia and their sons moved to their home in the country, on the pond. Ralph and the family loved their home in the country. Ralph often commented that the hills and valleys of Upstate New York reminded him of his time in the Army when stationed in Germany.
Ralph continued his career as a mechanical engineer at a start-up company and later by starting his own consulting firm, Alpha-Omega Engineering.
After retirement and seeing their sons married and starting their families in New England, Ralph and Cynthia made the decision to sell their beloved country home and move to Milford, NH, near their son Mike (and only a couple hour drive from their son Tim). Ralph and Cynthia loved being grandparents to their eight grandchildren!
Shortly after the move to New York, Ralph found faith in Jesus. This resulted in a sea change for the faith and culture of the family and began a long career of service to God, couples (through Marriage Encounter) and the churches where they attended.
Ralph was also a skilled wood crafter, making furniture, cabinets and all kinds of other projects, including a wooden clock!
Ralph loved his Lord, his wife, his sons, daughters-in-law (Kim & Jeanelle) and his grandchildren (Katherine, Matthew, Elizabeth, Ethan, Adam, Isaac, Noah and Lydia). His steady, calm and loving presence has been a part of the bedrock of each of their lives.
Ralph’s sweetheart of 64 years, Cynthia, got to heaven first, just over a month ago, but now they are together again!
Ralph’s family is sad that he is gone, but thankful for the full and rich life that he lived and shared with them.
Ralph is survived by his two sons, Mike and his wife Kim Paul of Milford, and Tim and Jeanelle Paul of Rhode Island, eight grandchildren and many close friends.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 16th, 2025 at 2PM at Christ’s Church of Amherst, 58 Merrimack Road, Amherst, NH. Burial will be private.
Donations in memory of Ralph can be made to his church or to Scripture Union (Ralph’s years of a daily ‘quiet time’ with God was guided by Scripture Union’s Encounter With God devotional - https://scriptureunion.org/encounters/)
