R. Charles Locicero

Rosario Charles “Charlie” Locicero, 93, of Milford, NH much loved by his family, passed away peacefully in Nashua on March 8, 2018. Charles was married to Mary (Duffy) Locicero for 65 years; Mary passed away in June 2017. Charles and Mary had made their home in Framingham, MA for 47 years before moving to Milford in 2013. Born December 22, 1924, in Milford, NH, he was the son of the late Anthony F. Locicero and Antoinette (Sario) Locicero. He was predeceased by a sister, Vera Locicero. Charles is survived by his three children, their spouses and five grandchildren: daughter Jean Locicero Shankle, her husband Dean and their two children, son Jeremy Shankle with his wife Elizabeth, and daughter Audrey Shankle; Charles’ daughter Kathryn Locicero Vanaria and her husband Neil and their son Anthony; Charles’ son Robert Charles Locicero and his wife Jean Salisbury Locicero and their sons Anthony and Daniel. He is also survived by close cousins from his extended family including Mary Grasso Lenz, Betsy Franks and her husband Paul, and Tina Gaidmore and many Locicero and Luongo cousins. Having had close bonds for many years to his wife Mary’s family, Charles is remembered fondly by the Duffy nieces and nephews and their families. Charles was at his happiest over a good meal surrounded by family and friends, holidays being cherished gatherings. He traveled to Italy many times to maintain family ties and to appreciate its history and culture. He looked forward to time on the links, being a 40-year golf enthusiast. He was an avid reader, loved a good movie and appreciated a funny joke. For 12 years, he coached youth hockey in Framingham, MA and volunteered for many years at the food pantry of St. Bridget’s Parish in Framingham. Charles was educated in Milford, NH schools, and graduated from Milford High School in 1942. He was a member of the National Youth Administration at Quoddy Village, Maine. He served in the US Army during World War II obtaining the rank of sergeant. He was decorated for his service and was a recipient of the French Legion of Honor. After World War II, he graduated from Nichols College and the University of New Hampshire with a degree in business. He met his wife, Mary, while both were attending graduate classes at Boston University. Charles spent his career in computers and banking in the Boston area and was recognized numerous times with awards for this entrepreneurship. He worked for General Electric for 24 years, was a member of the research and terminal committees of Mutual Institutional National Transfer Services, was a vice president and director at the Boston Five Cent Savings Bank and president of Savings Management Computer Corporation. He admired a self-starting attitude and sought to model that attitude himself. Calling hours will be at Smith & Heald Funeral Home in Milford, NH on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Services will be Tuesday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Milford. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Milford.
