Philip O. Smith, 88, a longtime resident of Milford, NH, passed on from this life on August 31, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Milford on May 8, 1927, a son of H.C. Dewey Smith and Anna (Harvey) Smith. He was raised and educated in Amherst and graduated from High Mowing School in Wilton, NH. Mr. Smith had been employed as Vice President of Sales at O.K. Tool Company for many years and founded Omega Manufacturing in Milford. Phil was a talented man whose interests included sailing, piloting small planes, and playing the cello. He was a voracious reader and skied well into his 80’s. In addition, he had been a member of the First Congregational Church of Milford and the Souhegan Men’s Chorus. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Glenice (Paananen) Smith, who died on August 22, 2015 and an infant son, Peter C. Smith, who died in 1951. Family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and George Boucher of Sugar Land, TX; three sons and daughters-in-law, Philip O. Smith, Jr. and Maureen Smith of Traverse City, MI, Mark and Jean Smith of Rindge, NH, Matthew and Susan Smith of Milford, NH; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, whom he adored. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service for Philip and Glenice will be held on Saturday, September 5th at 10:00 a.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Burial with military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in their memory may be made to the VNA of Manchester & Southern New Hampshire, 1070 Holt Avenue, Suite 1400, Manchester, NH 03109.
