Philip J. Currier

Philip J. Currier, 85, resident of Edgewater, Florida, died January 29, 2011 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH. He was born in Nashua, NH on February 26, 1925, a son of Ralph P. and Mary L. (Hunt) Currier. A resident of Amherst, NH for many years, he had lived in Henniker for more than 30 years. He and his wife wintered in Edgewater, Florida and made it their permanent residence several years ago. In 1952, he founded P.J. Currier Lumber Company, Amherst, NH. Mr. Currier was an avid croquet player and participated in many tournaments along the East Coast. He started his own croquet club in New Hampshire and also hosted several tournaments. A genealogist for many years, he published numerous volumes of The Currier Family Records in the United States and Canada. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater where he was captured and held as a P.O.W. in Germany. Mr. Currier received numerous awards and medals including The Bronze Star, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with five service stars, two arrowheads and the Army Good Conduct Medal. Family members include his wife of 62 years, June (Peterson) Currier of Amherst, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald P. and Patricia Currier of Milford, NH; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Gary Randlett of Amherst, NH, Christine and William Sidles of Weare, NH, Holly and Michael Piche of Milford, NH; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Gray of Jacksonville, FL; many nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours are Friday, February 4th from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to N.E. Historic Genealogical Society, 101 Newbury Street, Boston, MA 02116-3062.
