Pauline (Polly) L. Calvetti, 87, of Woodbine Lane, Amherst, NH, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at the Ledgewood Bay Assisted Living Facility in Milford, NH, following a period of declining health. She was born in Wilton, NH, May 8, 1925, the daughter of Lucy (Eva) Eaton and Elmer LaMarche. She grew up in Wilton and was predeceased by her three sisters and two brothers: Edna Locke, Eleanor Hallett, Alice Moore, Wilfred LaMarche and Frederick LaMarche. During high school, Polly worked at Cleareys Drug Store and graduated from Wilton High School with honors in 1943. After graduation she worked as a civilian secretary at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. during the Second World War. She married Nicholas E. Calvetti in 1945. They were married for 37 years until his untimely passing in 1982. Polly was a natural athlete and a great sports fan. She loved to play tennis, bowl and ski. She and Nick Sr. were active in the Wilton Ski Club. They were also frequently seen playing tennis with friends on the Milford Community House town courts. She was a member of the 160 Club at Bowlmor and Leda Lanes. A loyal Red Sox fan, she rarely missed a television or radio broadcast. She loved to travel with family and friends throughout the US, Canada, Europe and even Egypt. She had a special love of the Italian island of Capri which she visited several times. She also enjoyed card and board games including Jeopardy, Password, UNO and Tuck. One of her favorite activities was weekly Flinch games with her husband and his brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Molly Calvetti. Polly worked in several positions during her adult life, including the Milford Selective Services Board, Sprague and Carltons Food Canteen, Haywards Trading Post and Fannie Farmer Candy Shop. She started and ran a preschool for Milford children and in her retirement years, had a small shop selling antiques and collectibles. In 1978, she and her husband started a company which ultimately became Amherst Label, Inc. She is survived by her son, Nicholas E. Calvetti, Jr.; granddaughter, Angela Pauline Calvetti Hornor and her husband Nye Hornor and their three children; and a grandson, Nicholas Kepka Calvetti, all of Amherst. Calling hours are on Monday, July 9th, from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am in the funeral home, followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Mrs. Calvettis name to Share Outreach, Inc., 1 Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055.
