Paul F. Card, Sr.

Paul F. Card, Sr., 82, resident of Center Barnstead, NH, died on October 30, 2013 at Concord Hospital, Concord, NH. He was born in Bridgeport, CT on August 27, 1931, the ninth of eleven children to Leon B. and Elizabeth (Troy) Card. Prior to moving to Center Barnstead seven years ago, Mr. Card lived in several communities in New Hampshire including Mont Vernon and New Ipswich for many years. Mr. Card was employed by IBEW as a master electrician for 25 years. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he worked as a construction project manager for Digital Equipment Corporation. While living in New Ipswich, he was an active member of the community. He was a scout master, the Electric Light Commissioner, a police officer and NRA Instructor and served on a school committee. He enjoyed camping, hunting, farming and trips to the weekly farmer’s market in Keene, where he sold a variety of his vegetables. In addition, he tapped the trees on his property, made his own maple syrup and loved to distribute it to others. He also did all types of stone work, a craft that he learned from his father and one that he has passed on to his children. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt. Mr. Card was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Mary Card and a grandson, Joshua Brian Card. Family members include his wife of 59 years, Mabel E. (Putnam) Card of Center Barnstead, NH; two daughters, Diana Markham of Dover, NH and Colleen Morrison of Amherst, NH; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul F. Card, Jr. of Center Barnstead, NH, Michael and Lori Card of Milford, NH; 16 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Ann Card of Wheatridge, CO; two sisters, Sr. Mary Jane Card RSM of Norwalk, CT and Sr. Leona Card RSM of Denver, CO; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are on Monday, November 4th from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the March of Dimes, New Hampshire Chapter, 25 Lowell Street, Suite 304, Manchester, NH 03101.
