Neil S. Johnson

Neil S. Johnson, son of Grace (Maguire) and Stephen Johnson, died peacefully on January 14, 2008 at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, NH, surrounded by those who loved him dearly. He valiantly fought emphysema for several years and finally succumbed to related illnesses. He was born in Lynn, Mass on February 1, 1931 but spent most of his youth in Swampscott, Mass. and graduated from Swampscott High.He graduated from Bridgton Academy, where he met his first wife, Shirley Bib Dietz, and attended the University of Massachusetts to play football, his first and foremost love.He enlisted in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.He was the founder of Bibco Equipment Company and although he retired in 1989, he is still fondly remembered by many of his former customers. His passion for football was nearly equaled by his love of golf and in his later years, he spent much of his spare time on the course. He loved to cook, enjoyed the outdoors, and his love of gardening inspired anything green to grow and thrive.Bib died in 1995 and Neil became a constant presence at Monadnock Country Club, where he chaired the Grounds Committee and eventually met his second wife Sharon E. (Peters) Johnson. They thoroughly enjoyed eleven loving years together, choosing to move frequently, renovating homes and eventually settling on Arundel Road in Peterborough. In addition to Sharon, he is survived by the loving children of whom he was so proud: his sons, Lance of Brookline, NH and Brice of Harrisville, NH;his daughter, Robyn Courtemarche of Lyndeboro, NH;seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; his niece, Stephanie Naunton of Baltimore MD; his beloved Black Labs, Duncan and Riley and the many in-laws who enriched his life and thought so much of him.His love of life, his enormously generous heart, his deep bass voice and his massive hugs will be terribly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him. He will be laid to rest in Brookline, with Bib, in a private graveside service. He will remain in his family's hearts forever and a day.
