Nancy J. Kiernan

Nancy J. (Thorell) Kiernan, 72, died peacefully at her home on June 24, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. Nancy was born in Manchester, NH on May 6, 1944 a daughter of George and Shirley (Morrill) Thorell. She had been a resident of Amherst for most of her life. She graduated from Hairdressing School in 1963. She married Hugh V. Kiernan, a soldier in the US Army, on April 25, 1964. Nancy worked for the Amherst Middle School for many years in the school lunch program; she was den mother for the boy scouts a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Blue Star Mother’s. Nancy had a passion for taking care of people! She was a mother to every veteran and fire fighter she ever met and a kind friend to all. She loved cooking and sewing for EVERYONE. Nancy had a love of watching the wildlife and birds surrounding her home. Family members include her husband, Hugh V. Kiernan, her son, Michael Kiernan and his wife, Cynthia Kiernan, of Merrimack, NH, her daughter, Tracy Kiernan, of Amherst, NH, a brother, George Thorell of Kennebunk, ME; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda and Butch Grant of Amherst, NH and Cindy Thorell of Pembroke, NH and four nieces and nephews, as well as, her beloved 6 grand-puppies. Memorial visiting hours will be held on Saturday, July 2nd from 10:00 – 12:00 noon in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A celebration of life will follow at Parkhurst Place, 11 Veterans Road, Amherst, NH from 12:30pm on and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Nancy's life.
