Michel J. Antone, 90, longtime educator and resident of Danvers, MA died on December 2, 2012, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Amherst, NH. He was born in New Bedford, MA on September 6, 1922, a son of Joseph and Mary (Joseph) Antoon. Mr. Antone earned his degree from Brown University. In the early part of his career he worked at Shady Hill School in Lexington, MA. He was a professor at Salem State College and the Director of Math and Science for the City of Medford. Mr. Antone was instrumental in the introduction of modern math to education. For several years, he operated a summer camp for gifted children in Rockport, MA. He was an avid sports fan and liked following the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He also enjoyed his daily workouts at the gym, skiing and playing tennis which he continued doing well into his eighties. In addition, he was an avid gardener and was famous for his tomatoes. Mr. Antone was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WWII having served as a navigator in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Mr. Antone was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Danvers, MA. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean (Halpin) Antone. Family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bruce Manchester of Amherst, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Marie Antone of Newton, NH; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Manchester of Amherst, NH; a sister, Rose Engel of Acushnet, MA; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 8th in the Peterson-ODonnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple Street, (Rte. 62), Danvers, MA from 1:00-4:00 pm. A MEMORIAL SERVICE IN CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE WILL BE HELD AT THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF AMHERST, 11 CHURCH STREET, (AMHERST VILLAGE) AMHERST, NH ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 19TH AT 11:00 AM.
