Maureen W. Disco

Maureen W. Disco, 70 of Amherst, N.H., died January 24, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Cambridge Massachusetts, on July 6, 1940, daughter of the late John J. and Blanche Walsh. She graduated from Mount St Joseph Academy in 1958 and Regis College Class of 1962. She received her Master’s degree from UMass Boston. She taught elementary education for over 30 years. Early in her working career, she had been employed as an elementary school teacher in the Nashua School District, and retired after working for the Amherst School District for over 20 years. Mrs. Disco was a resident of Amherst for the past 45 years. She was an avid reader and spent her retired years devoted to her grandchildren. In her earlier years, she was a Cub Scout leader and an active member of the PTA. In addition, she was a communicant of St. Patrick Church, Milford. She was predeceased by her loving husband George in 2008. Family members include three sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Sheri Disco of Amherst, N.H., Michael and Marcelle Disco of Brookline, N.H., Greg and Christine Disco of Stow, M.A., and a daughter Christine Disco of Mont Vernon, N.H.; She had ten grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Michael K. Disco, Andrew Disco, Shannon Disco, Kailey Disco, Ashley Disco, Samantha Disco, Julia Disco, Anna Disco, Thomas Lipkin, and Allison Lipkin. She is also survived by her sister, Joan T. Bowers of Seabrook, T.X.; six nieces, five nephews and their children. Calling hours are Sunday, January 30th from 1:00-5:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 am in St. Patrick Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Amherst, in the spring.
