Mary Josephine (Adams) Young, a resident of Manchester, NH, died August 12, 2010, after a period of declining health. She was born in Milford on January 4, 1916, a daughter of the late Anne Bridget (Keane) of Co. Kilkenny, Ireland and Lewis Monroe Adams of Hollis, NH. Mrs. Young graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1934 and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Nashua, Class of 1937. She married Frederick Young on June 29, 1948, in Milford, NH and they moved to Manchester in 1951. After graduating from nursing school she worked at The Hale Hospital, Malden Hospital and the Bedford VA in Massachusetts. After her marriage she worked at various local institutions retiring as night nursing supervisor at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home. She played Guard on the Milford High School Girls Basketball Team and was Captain when they won the 1934 State Championship. She enjoyed many summers with her family on Lake Ossipee and was an avid swimmer. Mrs. Young loved being active and took many trips with her husband in her lifetime. In her later life, she enjoyed listening to books on tape and watching EWTN TV. She was a member of St. Patrick Church while living in Milford and St. Raphael Church after moving to Manchester. Her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Frederick who died in 2007; her sister, Mrs. John (Alice) Gilmore; and brothers, Herbert “Jack” Adams and Norman Adams. Family members include two daughters, Mary Janet Young of Manchester, and Mrs. Raymond "Chip" (Joanne) Furlong, Jr. of Golden, Colorado; a son, Frederick Young of Blue Hill, Maine; nieces, Mrs. Daniel (Theresa) Boucher of Bristol and Mrs. Brian (Dorothy) Krol of Bedford; sisters- in-law, Mrs. T.R. (Jane) Langdell of Milford and Mrs. Herbert (Dorothy) Adams of Concord and many more nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 21st at 10:00 am in St. Patrick Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Raphael Church, 103 Walker Street, Manchester, NH 03102, St. Patrick Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH 03055 or a charity of your choice
