Mary Francis Brown, 95, Of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, passed away June 19th at home surrounded by and in the care of her three devoted daughters.


Mary was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1929 and raised in Smithfield, Rhode Island, graduating from Saint Xavier High School in Providence. She was married to Alexander Brown for 54 years until his death in 2004.


In 1968 Mary and Alex moved with their five children to Mont Vernon, New Hampshire from Granitville, Rhode Island. Mary became a member of the community serving as a beloved crossing guard at the Mont Vernon Village School and hosting the annual Mont Vernon town Christmas party at her beautiful Victorian home on Main Street.


Mary was a dedicated mother of five, grandmother of eight and great grandmother to six. Nonnie, as she was affectionately known to her family, gave her time and energy to supporting her large family with love and care. She was proud of her Irish heritage and Catholic faith. She looked forward to family vacations to Maine and Disney World.


Mary was predeceased by her parents Mary (O’Melia) and Oscar Rathier of Smithfield, Rhode Island and two sisters Patricia and Maureen, also of Smithfield, Rhode Island.


Mary is survived by her large family: sister Karen (Rathier) and husband Robert brown of Greenville, Rhode Island. Four children and their spouses: Dale Miller, husband of deceased daughter Tracy, of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire; Laurie and Joseph Foistner of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire; Mark Brown and wife Kate Fitzpatrick of New Boston, New Hampshire; Kelly and Bob Mazze of Amherst, New Hampshire and Lisa and Kenny Koenig of New Boston, New Hampshire.


Mary’s surviving grandchildren and their spouses are Christine and Brett Janoski; Jennifer and Keith Prive; Bonnie and Brian Creighton; Aaron and Kelsey Miller; Ethan Miller, Nike Mazze, Mei Xiu Brown and Alex Koenig. Mary’s surviving great grandchildren are Dagem, Moses, Avaram, Emma, Sean and Lily. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Rhode Island.


The family is eternally grateful to Amedisys Hospice of Bedford, New Hampshire for their extended care and support of Mary. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Amedisys Hospice.


Mary will be interred during a private burial at Mont Vernon cemetery.
