Mary E. Higley

Mary E. Higley, 81, died October 12, 2016 at Monadnock Community Hospital, Peterborough, NH. Born in Brattleboro, VT, March 14, 1935 to Paul R. and Frances M. (Cummings) Guthrie, Mary attended St. Michael’s School, Brattleboro from first through 12th grade. Upon graduation, Mary worked for Metropolitan Life and Woolworth. After marriage to Forrest N. Higley in 1955, Mary and Forrest lived in Ohio, New York and then settled in New Hampshire. They lived in Milford, NH for 28 years, during which time Mary worked at The Monarch Diner and then the Milford Cooperative Bank (now TD Bank), starting as a teller and working her way up to becoming the Branch Manager for the Amherst location on Rt 101A. Family members include her two daughters, Ellen Salisbury of Gray, Maine and Sharon Higley of Temple; two sons, Gregory Higley of Temple and Patrick Higley of Goffstown; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandsons; two brothers, Eugene Guthrie of Brattleboro and Kenneth Guthrie of Hampton, New Hampshire; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Forrest N. Higley; her grandson, Alexandre Salisbury; and her brothers James Guthrie and Richard Guthrie. Calling hours are on Sunday, October 16th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Michael’s School, 48 Walnut Street, Brattleboro, VT, 05301 in care of the Principal, or to the Share Outreach, Inc., One Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055.
