Mary E. Hennessey

Mary E. Hennessey, 73, resident of Milford, NH, died on May 20, 2015 peacefully in her sleep at her home. She was born in Boston, MA on January 9, 1942, daughter of David and Fannie (Walker) Driscoll. She was raised in Acton, MA and was one of the first 7 women admitted to Boston College’s (BC’s) College of Arts and Sciences and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. She lived in Framingham, MA and worked for Honeywell for many years as a software engineer. She transitioned to a job as a seamstress after having kids to spend more time at home with her family. She later finished her professional career as a nurse and graduated from Assabet Valley Nursing School with both an LPN and RN. She loved being a nurse and worked in various interesting positons including at the Framingham prison, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and lastly for the American Red Cross. Mary moved to Milford, NH and was living there in her retirement for the last seven years. Mary enjoyed life greatly, she especially loved spending time with her family and doting on her grandchildren. In her retirement she spent one day a week babysitting for her grandkids Katie and Owen in Lancaster, MA and had a special bond as Mimi to both of them. She was a warm and caring woman who had an open heart for everyone she met. She was a welcoming person who easily invited people into her home and into her heart. Mary was a mom that every kid wanted to have and she was a second mom to many of her kid’s friends. Mary was an avid reader and always had a book in her purse and more coming in the mail every day (although we could not get her to use a technological device like a Kindle or a Nook). She loved social gatherings and was well known for the parties she hosted in her younger years. In her later years she was there for every family event and get together, playing with the kids, talking with family and friends, enjoying the food (especially dessert) and having a favorite drink (appletini’s and bloody mary’s). Mary will be dearly missed by all who met her, came to know her and to love her as we do. Family members include two daughters and sons-in-law and two grandchildren; Deborah and Scott Grover of Brookline, NH, and Diane and Chris Potter, parents of Katie Elizabeth and Owen Daniel Potter of Lancaster, MA; a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Rick Teno of Ayer, MA and their son Jayson and his family; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Laura Driscoll of Proctor, VT and their daughters Tammie and Nellie; a nephew Scott Moulton of Dedham, MA; and a son, Douglas Hennessey of Sturbridge, MA. She was predeceased by her mother and father, a sister, Ann and her husband Bob Moulton. A Memorial gathering has been planned and visiting hours are on Wednesday, May 27th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH.
