Martha R. Tighe

Martha R. Tighe, 68, resident of Wilton, NH, died November 11, 2009 at Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, NH. She was born in Nashua, NH on January 1, 1941, a daughter of the late Lawrence A. Tighe, Sr. and Ruth E. (Burns) Tighe. Martha was a lifelong resident of Wilton and graduated from Wilton High School, Class of 1960. Prior to her retirement in 1995, she had been employed as a telephone operator for New England Telephone Company for 35 years. Martha was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, planting flowers in her yard, hosting family cookouts and decorating her home for the holidays. In addition, she loved animals and would often take in stray cats and other animals in need. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Wilton. Martha was predeceased by two brothers, James E. Tighe and Lawrence A. Tighe, Jr.; and a sister, Patricia A. McGettigan. Family members include her sister, Elizabeth A. Quinn of Milford, NH; a brother and sister-in-law, John F. & Brenda Tighe of Wilton, NH; many nieces, nephews, cousins and her longtime friend, Jay Brodeur of Florida. Calling hours are Monday evening, November 16th from 6:00-9:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart Church, 47 Maple Street, Wilton, NH. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wilton, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, 24 Ferry Road, Nashua, NH 03064-8109.
