Marie A. Strait, 73, resident of New Boston, NH, died December 7, 2009 at her home. She was born in Barton, VT on January 31, 1936, a daughter of the late Raymond and Arlene Chappell. Marie attended Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg, MA. She resided in New Boston for a short time and formerly made her home in Temple, NH for 23 years and Townsend, MA for many years. She had been an assistant manager at the 101 Convenience Store in Wilton where she had worked for 20 years. Marie was an excellent seamstress, an avid quilter and loved to travel. In addition, she enjoyed volunteering for the Adult Literacy Program and was active in the Temple Theatre Group. In her earlier years, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She was predeceased by a son, Raoul L. Messier and a brother, Richard Chappell. Family members include four daughters, Margaret W. �Peg� Messier of New Bern, NC, Angela M. VanGilder of New Boston, NH with whom she made her home, Lori A. Salvas of Fitchburg, MA and April L. Strait of Lantana, FL; a son, David Strait of Townsend, MA; 11 Grandchildren; 8 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; a sister, Linda Christianson of North Windham, ME; her stepfather, Gordon Bowen of North Windham, ME; and a nephew. Memorial visiting hours are Friday evening, December 11th from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. Burial will be in Burke Green Cemetery, Burke Hollow, VT at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans Organization, 275 Chestnut Street, Manchester, NH 03101.
