Marguerite Brockway, 81, resident of Amherst, NH, died May 7, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Nashua, NH. She was born in Long Island, NY, on July 27, 1928, the daughter of the late Anthony and Filomena (Cascia) Martinelli. Mrs. Brockway made her home in Amherst for more than 45 years. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from American University, Washington, D.C., and also completed graduate work in music history and voice at American University. She earned her teaching certificate from the University of New Hampshire in 1971 and her certification in school administration in 1982. For 27 years, Mrs. Brockway was the music teacher at Wilkins Elementary School in Amherst, NH. After retirement, she continued to teach privately. In addition, she taught adult education in music at the NH Technical College and Rivier College and served as a docent at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren B. Brockway, who died in 1982. Family members include two daughters, Karen Grace of Amherst, NH; Marie Brockway of Springfield, VT; a brother, Jack Martinelli of Rockville, MD; two sisters, Theresa Volkman of Rockville, MD; and Rita Martinelli of Jacksonville, FL. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 15th at 4:00 pm in The Church of Our Saviour, 10 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American University College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Music, 4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016-8143 ATTN: Liz Raymond, for the establishment of a scholarship for a dedicated voice major.
