Margaret Urie Brown

Margaret U. Brown, 98, of Milford, NH, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on August 18, 2008. She was born in Craftsbury, VT on April 26, 1910, the daughter of Clarence and Annie (Shields) Urie. Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Craftsbury Academy and Mary Fletcher School of Nursing, Burlington VT. She was a dedicated member of The First Congregational Church of Milford for 60 years. She served as Superintendent of Sunday School, member of the Diaconate board, Laura G. Heald Club, and was Parish Visitor for many years. In 1984, Mrs. Brown was selected as NHs mother of the year. Her philosophy of parenting was that the fabric of father and mother love should be strong enough to keep a family close but not to strangle. Margaret served her community by volunteering for the Red Cross Blood Bank and working for the Souhegan Nursing Association. She was also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Home for Aged Women, and a member of the Milford Womens Club. Mrs. Brown was predeceased by her devoted husband of 43 years, Philip N. Brown. Her beloved son, James W. Brown D.M.D. died tragically in May of this year. Family members include a son, David T. Brown and his wife, Collette; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Curtis Brown, wife of James; a daughter, Barbara Downer and her husband, David; 8 Grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Urie and his wife, Hazel; sisters-in-law, Janet Urie and Gert Urie; many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 1:00 pm in the First Congregational Church, 10 Union Street, Milford, NH.� Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford.� In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church Memorial Fund, P.O.
