Lucy Knight Schmidt – LYNDEBOROUGH, NH
Lucy was born in Salem Massachusetts to Florence Way and E Foster Knight on June 2, 1920.
She spent much of her childhood close to the Ocean, which she always had a deep love for. She lost her mother at the young age of 11 and has left behind a legacy as she has now peacefully passed. Lucy gained her wings on June 19, 2024, at the age of 104 in the farmhouse she started her life and family in 80 years earlier in Lyndeborough, NH.
Lucy grew up as an only child in Salem, Mass and didn't move to town till she was 16. When arriving her father and her started their new adventure on Mountain Road on a plot of land called Echo Farm. Her interests were drawn up to the mountains where she had many fond memories of sledding and ice skating there as a young adult. She lived here till she met her beloved husband Edward Schmidt who she was predeceased for over 40 years. In this home they had and raised 5 beautiful girls, many cows and created a life for themselves.
Lucy was a beloved member of the town and community of Lyndeborough, NH. She attended church every Sunday and was a faithful servant throughout her life. There were not many places you could go without someone knowing her or knowing of her. She worked for several years at the Wilton High School alongside her husband Ed. Anyone who knew her would tell you of the kind, charismatic, and humble person she was.
She was a simple person who ate 3 square meals a day with her large meal in the middle of the day, always. She loved to sit on her back deck listening to the birds, watching the hummingbirds, and planting in her many gardens. She grew her own vegetables till in her late 90’s and shot her 22 like a pro till she lost too much of her eyesight. It was often a phrase that you would hear said at the farm house “ Op Grammie is shooting at the squirrels on the bird feeder again” of “ That damn woodchuck is in her garden again”. She reused things where she could and did not replace things with the fancy new model because it was available. She lived through and endured many world events and life challenges. She had the memory of an elephant and the health of a horse. She lived a long full life, and lived to be twice what some people only get to be once. Up until just shy of 100 she could still remember stories of her early birthdays and many other memories of her early life. These stories will now be beloved memories for her loved ones to hold close and pass on to future generations. See you down the pike!
