Lucy A. Getchell

Lucy A. Getchell, 78, resident of Milford, NH, died on July 15, 2017 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, NH. She was born in Dedham, Maine on November 6, 1938, a daughter of Paul and Gertrude Smith. Lucy made her home in Milford for the past 37 years and formerly lived in Massachusetts and Florida. She had been employed as a cook at various nursing homes throughout Southern New Hampshire including Crestwood Healthcare Center in Milford, where she had worked for several years. Lucy was a member of Burns Hill Christian Fellowship, Milford. In addition, she had served as past president of Ricciardi Hartshorn Post #23, American Legion. She enjoyed the many friends that she made while living in town and at Granite Square. She loved to play bingo and traveling all over New Hampshire with her husband and their little doggy. Family members include her husband of 54 years, Ernest Getchell of Milford; two daughters, Rebecca Crane of Watertown, MA and Melody Martin of Brighton, MA; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a sister, Dolly Sixbury of Houlton, ME. There are no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20th at 10:00 a.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Burial will follow in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 D.W. Highway, Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucy’s memory to Ricciardi Hartshorn Post #23, American Legion, 15 Cottage Street, Milford, NH 03055.
