Lucille Woodman Palmer, 93, resident of Milford, died on June 7, 2014 at Crestwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Milford. She was born in Nashua, NH on October 10, 1920, the daughter of Rodney C. Woodman, Sr. and Mildred (Kimball) Woodman. She graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1938. She earned her associate’s degree from Colby Jr. College, New London, NH in 1940 and her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Elementary Education from Wheelock College, Boston in 1942. Mrs. Palmer did settlement house teaching in Boston for two years and then taught at Waynflete School in Portland, Maine. In addition, she was a substitute teacher in the Milford, Amherst and Mont Vernon schools for 18 years. She made her home in Milford for most of her life and had also lived in Peterborough, NH for almost 20 years. She and her late husband wintered in Sarasota, Florida for many years. Mrs. Palmer enjoyed sports, playing tennis and golf. She was a longtime member of Hampshire Hills, Nashua Country Club, Amherst Country Club and Monadnock Country Club. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Milford, UCC, Laura G. Heald Club and a 50 year member of Puritan Charity Themis Atlantic Chapter #29, Order of Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel L. Palmer who died in 2004 and a brother, Rodney C. Woodman, Jr. Family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy P. and J. Michael Deasy of Milford; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen K. and Sandra Palmer of Sharon, NH; three grandchildren, Jennifer Deasy of Grantham, NH, Suzanne Wright of Arlington, MA and Jaime Giza of Jaffrey, NH; two great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Giza and Stephen Giza; and her twin sister, Sylvia Slater. Visiting hours are on Tuesday, June 10th from 5:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford.
