Lucille Jean Heald, 90, resident of Wilton, NH passed away peacefully on June 15, 2014 at the Arbors of Bedford. She was born in Greenville, NH on August 27, 1923, the daughter of Canadian born Aurele Jean and Marie Louise Thibault of Greenville. She was the youngest of seven siblings and was considered the “Little Princess” by her brothers and sisters. Lucille graduated from Appleton Academy in New Ipswich, NH and joined the U.S. Coast Guard shortly after where she served until her marriage. In 1945, she married the love of her life, Philip C. Heald, Jr. of Wilton, NH. She was an active and longtime member of The New Hampshire Federation of Women’s Clubs, an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer services. She served as past president of the Greenville Women’s Club and was a member of the American Legion Post #10 for more than 60 years. Lucille and her husband were very active in New Hampshire politics with a particular passion for the conservation of NH forests and maintaining the strong Republican ethic that made New Hampshire great. Lucille will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, a warm and wonderful aunt and god mother. She also loved her dogs and cats. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip C. Heald, Jr. who died in 2007; three brothers, Eli, Jerry and Benny; and three sisters, Jeanette, Florence and Gertrude. Family members include her brother-in-law, Ross Heald of Jackson, NH, sister-in-law Helen (Heald) Rader of Columbia SC; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. You may want to visit Phil and Lucille’s home now called The Heald Tract, a natural area of ponds, streams, fields and forests. Go hiking, bird watching, take a nature walk, cross country ski and snow shoe. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, 54 Portsmouth Street, Concord, NH 03301, Attn: Susanne Kibler-Hacker.
