Lester F. Boyce, Jr.

Lester F. “Fred” Boyce, Jr., 85, resident of Milford, NH, died May 15, 2010 at Crestwood Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Milford. He was born in Boston, MA on May 30, 1924, a son of the late Lester F. Boyce, Sr. and Anna C. (MacAuley) Boyce. Mr. Boyce graduated from Brookline High School, Brookline, MA, earned his Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College-Amos Tuck School of Business Administration and also received a degree from Bangor Theological Seminary. He had been employed as a CPA for Price Waterhouse for several years and left to teach at the University of Connecticut. From 1958-1961, he was the editor of the Journal of Accountancy and later returned to teach accounting at the University of Maine-Orono through the 70’s and in the mid 80’s, he taught at Truman State in Missouri until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Boyce was a contributor to the Encyclopedia Americana having published over 50 articles. In his earlier years, he was an avid mountain climber and member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. In addition, he enjoyed dining out and was a voracious reader. Mr. Boyce was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran having served during World War II. Family members include a daughter, Heather Weihl of Seattle, WA; and a close friend, Joan Holt of Milford, NH. Visiting hours are Wednesday, May 19th from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Brookline, MA. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire, 545 Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110-4711.
