Laverta S. Lewis

Laverta S. Lewis, 76, resident of Milford, NH, died on November 23, 2012 at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Eldorado, Oklahoma on June 2, 1936, a daughter of Cephus and Ada (Burnett) Smith. Mrs. Lewis was raised and educated in Mangum, Oklahoma and was active in the school gymnastics program. She had made her home in Milford for the past 34 years and formerly lived in Pleasanton, CA for 8 years and Oak Ridge, TN for 11 years. She enjoyed painting in oils, especially still life and dogs. She was an avid gardener, loved animals and was a wonderful cook. Mrs. Lewis was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother. Family members include her husband of 55 years, Robert E. Lewis of Milford, NH; a daughter, Thela A. Lewis of Florence, MA; two sons, Phillip R. Lewis of Belgium and David E. Lewis of Lyndeborough, NH; three grandchildren, Zachary E. Lewis, David A. Lewis and Angela Lewis; and a great granddaughter, Jada. There are no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 28th at 10:00 am in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford.
