Kenneth Smith, 54, resident of Brookline, NH, died September 28, 2008 at St. Josephs Hospital, Nashua, NH.� He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom on October 6, 1953, a son of Mary O. (Blake) Smith and the late Andrew Smith. Born and raised in Scotland, Mr. Smith�lived many years in the London area and resided in Brookline, NH for the past 4 years.� He served in the 1st Battalion Scots Guards for 9 years as Infantryman and Piper (British Army).� While in the Scots Guard, he served and performed at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, three Military Edinburgh Tattoos, Edinburgh Castle, Scotland as well as many Trouping of the Colors for the Queens official birthday in London.� He was employed as a police officer for Scotland Yard Metropolitan Police in London and retired in 2003.� Mr. Smith was a member and chairman of the Scots Guards Association of London during the 350th anniversary of the Scots Guards.� He was Pipe Major of the British Airways Pipe Band from 1991-2001 and traveled throughout the world, including in 1996, when they were a guest band at the New Hampshire Highland Games, Loon Mountain.� He was a Pipe Major and Pipe Sergeant of the Blue Bonnets (City of London) Pipe Band.� He was also a member of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and Scots Guards Pipers Branch Association.� In addition, he was a member of National Association of Retired Police Officers in the UK.� � While living in New Hampshire, Mr. Smith worked part time for the Derry Police Department as an evidence technician.� He was a member of the New Hampshire School of Scottish Arts Pipe Band and was the Pipe Major for one year.� In addition, he was a piping instructor and played at various functions, including weddings and funerals, in the area.� ����� In addition to his mother, family members include his wife with whom he would have celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary on October 11th, Susan F. (Myers) Smith of Brookline, NH and formerly of Abington and Millis, MA; a sister, Lynda Moss, two brothers, Brian Smith and Robert Smith, all of the UK; his mother-in-law, Nancy T. Myers of Abington, MA; his father-in-law, John Myers and his wife, Mary of Brewster, MA; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.� There are no visiting hours.� A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 3rd at 11:00 am at Cathedral of the Pines, Cathedral Road, Rindge, NH.� For driving directions, go to www.cathedralofthepines.org� Burial will be in Scotland at a later date.� In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA� 01701.�
