John R. Ferguson

John R. Ferguson, 75, lifelong resident of Milford, died on February 11, 2014 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Amherst, NH on December 9, 1938, a son of Doris (Wildman) Ferguson of Milford and the late John R. Ferguson, Sr. He graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1956 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry from the University of New Hampshire, Class of 1960. John had been employed as a forester for the UNH Cooperative Extension Service for 45 years. Following his retirement, he worked for Bay State Forestry Service in Massachusetts for 10 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and a passionate golfer. He enjoyed cross country skiing, puzzles and most especially loved walking his dog, Tara. In addition, he was a New England sports fan. John was a 50 year member of The First Congregational Church of Milford, UCC. He served in the New Hampshire National Guard and was a member of Ricciardi Hartshorn Post #23 American Legion, Milford. In addition to his mother, family members include his loving wife of 52 years, Linda J. (Blanchard) Ferguson of Milford; three sisters, Virginia Gentes of Wilton, Susan Bell and Faye Tanguay, both of Milford; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandra and Robert Courage of Milford; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are on Friday, February 14th from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in the First Congregational Church of Milford, UCC, 10 Union Street, Milford. Burial with military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Beaver Brook Association, Inc., 117 Ridge Road, Hollis, NH 03049 or to a charity of one’s choice.
