John R. Dawson

Retired Army Sgt. John R. Dawson, 69, resident of Lyndeborough, NH, died May 17, 2009 at his home. He was born in Wilton, NH on December 14, 1939, a son of the late George V. & Dorothy (Hughes) Dawson. Mr. Dawson was raised and educated in Wilton, NH and graduated from Wilton High School, Class of 1958. He resided in Lyndeborough for several years and had formerly lived in Manchester, NH for many years. He enjoyed dining out, had a great interest in genealogy research, writing and was an avid history buff, especially military history. Mr. Dawson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and retired from the U.S. Army in 1979 after 20 years of service. He completed five tours in Vietnam and received numerous commendations and service awards. Family members include two sons, Bernard V. Dawson and Benjamin A. Dawson, both of Carlsbad, CA; a granddaughter, Alexandra Elizabeth Dawson; two sisters, Sharon O. Poisson of Manchester, NH, Penelope C. Simpson of Lyndeborough, NH; three brothers, George V. Dawson, Jr. of VA, Thomas H. Dawson of Allenstown, NH and Robert E. Dawson of Manchester, NH; many nieces and nephews. There are no services.
