John R. Buffington

John R. Buffington, 88, resident of New Ipswich, NH, died February 5, 2012 at The Elms Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Milford. He was born in Valley View, PA on November 22, 1923, a son of John A. and Eva M. (Heller) Buffington. Mr. Buffington resided in New Ipswich since 1988 and formerly lived in Milford for many years and Springfield, VT for several years. Throughout his working career, he had been employed as an electrical and computer engineer. While living in New Hampshire, he worked for Sanders Associates, Nashua, NH. Mr. Buffington was a member of the New Ipswich Planning Board for 10 years and had also served on the Board of the Souhegan Valley Ambulance Service. In his earlier years, he was active in the Boy Scouts and was the first Scout Master of Troop #407, Milford, NH. He enjoyed bird watching and was an avid reader. He attended Greenville Community Christian Church, Greenville, NH. Mr. Buffington was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II and Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of Sergeant. Family members include his wife of 58 years, Ada M. (Kimball) Buffington of New Ipswich, NH; two sons, Alan Buffington and his fiancé, Betsy Graves of Rindge, NH, Philip D. Buffington and his wife, Penny of Lake Placid, NY; a daughter, Kathryn S. Buffington of Oklahoma City, OK; one grandson, Trever and one great grandson, Mason. Visiting hours are Tuesday, February 7th from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am in the funeral home. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 2:00 pm in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 D.W. Highway, Boscawen, NH.
