John N. Bird

John Nicholas Bird, 76, died in his sleep at the Crestwood Nursing Home in Milford, NH on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Born in Framingham, MA, he grew up in Wayland and Andover MA, spending summers with family in York, ME from 1943 on. He graduated from Proctor Academy in NH and attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. After completing military service in the Coast Guard, he worked on Long Island, NY before moving to Milford NH where he met and married Mabel A. Smith in 1970. Prior to retiring in 2007, he was the owner of an auto supply business in Milford, servicing the southern NH region. An avid automobile enthusiast, he also enjoyed travel especially to Jamaica and Ecuador and cruises around the Caribbean. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Johnston and Edith Bird of York, ME and his brother in law, Ernest Kittredge. Surviving are his loving wife of 43 years, Mabel; his sister Susan Bird Kittredge of Princeton, NJ and York, ME; his nephew Neil Kittredge, his wife Kirsten Shaw and grandnephew, Asher of Brooklyn, NY. Burial will be in the First Parish Cemetery, York, ME, at a later date.
