John Joseph King

John J. King, 84, resident of the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, NH, died on January 13, 2013 at Concord Hospital, Concord, NH. He was born in Chelsea, MA on September 7, 1928, a son of Timothy L. and Rita M. (Southwell) King. Mr. King lived for a time in Kingston, Newfoundland was raised and educated in Malden, and resided there for more than 60 years. Following his retirement, he made his home in Milford, NH and lived the last two years at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton. Mr. King was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had been stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was employed for more than 40 years by the City of Malden as a mechanic and then Sealer of Weights and Measures. He enjoyed music, his dog Mugzee and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane (Scagnoli) King, who died in 2009; a brother, Joseph King; two sisters, Helen Feraco and Mildred Ross. Family members include two daughters and son-in-law, Joan and Paul Dargie of Milford, NH, June Mc Adam of North Andover, MA; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Darlene King of Andover, MA, Joseph and Mary King of Falmouth, MA; 10 Grandchildren; a sister, Theresa Titus of Tewksbury, MA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol and Paul MacDonald of Falmouth, MA, JoAnn and Michael O’Donnell Falmouth, MA, Judy and Matt Trocchio, North Palm Beach, FL, Jan Moore Pittsfield, ME and Jackie Lawson Pinehurst, NC as well as so many nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank the staff at the Veteran’s Home in Tilton, NH for making his stay there a pleasant one. He will miss all his friends there. They would also like to thank the volunteers at the Milford Methodist Church Day Away Program that he participated in while living in Milford, NH. There are no calling hours. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 18th at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart Church, 297 Main Street, Malden, MA. Burial with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm in Fairview Cemetery, 45 Fairview Avenue, Hyde Park, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276.
