John A. Pollock

John Andrews Pollock, 79, a longtime resident of Wilton, died Tuesday November 27, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 15, 1933 in Manchester, the son of the late James Allen Pollock and Laura (Andrews) Pollock. Jack was a graduate of Manchester West High School, Class of 1952. He was enrolled in the ROTC program at UNH where he studied mechanical engineering and received a B.S.M.E degree in 1956. After a year at Carrier Corporation in Syracuse, NY, he went on to serve 2 years in the U.S.A.F. at bases in San Antonio, TX, Mariana, FL and St. Paul, MN. Following his military service Jack joined Sanders Associates in Nashua, holding key positions during his 27 year employment, including Chief Engineer and Program Manager for the development of the ALQ-137 Countermeasures Set for the FB-111 aircraft. In 1986 Jack left Sanders to start Product Engineering Associates (PEA), a consulting business, and Special Hermetic Products, Inc. (SHP), a manufacturer of microwave components. SHP, which started in Jack’s garage, grew significantly over the years and now employs 30 people at its current location in Wilton. Jack had been a registered Professional Engineer in NH and holds 5 patents for various inventions related to hermetic sealing. He retired in 2011. Jack served on the board of New England Psychiatric Association and was active in the Nashua chapter of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill and Community Council. He loved to hunt and fish and went on many expeditions with family and friends. Lake Katahdin, Lake Winnipesaukee and the Connecticut Lakes were a few of his favorite destinations. He played the saxophone and as a youth frequently performed in his father’s band, the Jimmy Pollock Orchestra. In more recent years he was a member of the American Legion Band in Hudson. Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy (Nussberger) Pollock, his beloved children, son John Pollock and wife Peggy of Rowley, MA; son Rand Pollock of Nashua; daughter Lori Jensen of Manchester; daughter Wendy Cheney and husband James of Wilton; grandchildren Benjamin, Amanda and Alexander Pollock, Madison and MacKenzie Cheney, and Andrew Jensen; his brother Robert Pollock and wife Jean of New Boston; his sister-in-law Carol Sullivan and husband David of Storrs, CT; and many additional relatives and friends. The family would like to extend thanks to all those who cared for Jack including Lahey Clinic in Burlington MA, Southern NH Medical Center in Nashua and Home Health and Hospice Care of Merrimack. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 2nd from 6:00-9:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am in the First Congregational Church of Milford, UCC, 10 Union Street, Milford.
